Site HSE Manager - Nagpur HVDC Converter Station

Hitachi Energy is hiring a Site HSE Manager for its Nagpur HVDC Converter Station mega-project in India. The position requires over 10 years of industrial project HSE management experience, an Engineering degree, and a recognized Industrial Safety Diploma (RLI/CLI/ADIS). Key responsibilities include managing site HSE systems, leading incident investigations, ensuring statutory compliance under the BOCW Act, and implementing safety campaigns.

The Site HSE Manager is responsible for all matters pertaining to Health, Safety, and Environment with respect to regulatory, company, and client requirements for an HVDC mega-project at Nagpur. Reporting directly to the Regional HSE Manager for APAC/MENA, this site-based role involves advising, coaching, and supporting the project team in safe project delivery, setting up HSE plans, leading incident investigations, promoting behavioral safety, and ensuring statutory and environmental compliance.

1. Support the project team in the preparation, set-up and improvement of the project Health, Safety and Environmental system (Site HSE Plan, Emergency Preparedness & Response Plan, Construction Traffic Management Plan, etc.). 2. Participate, review, and assist in the development of safety documentation e.g., Risk Assessments & Method Statements and Permit to Work. 3. Act as the HSE focal point to site, project, and management, and coordinate with all frontline managers regarding HSE matters. 4. Ensure leading/lagging indicators are collated and reported to allow for KPI reports to be generated. 5. Work in cooperation with other stakeholders, establishing and maintaining close contact with Client and Subcontractor HSE representatives. 6. Participate in the coordination of site activities to identify potentially hazardous Simultaneous Operations and ensure activities are planned and completed in accordance with the approved Safe System of Work. 7. Plan and deliver HSE campaigns such as Toolbox Talk (TBT), briefings, demonstrations, and drills. 8. Provide guidance and advice on matters relating to HSE for on-site personnel. 9. Lead site incident investigations to ensure root cause and preventative/corrective actions are identified, and all information is collated within the Company Incident Management System. 10. Identify trends by following up on incident and hazard observation data and propose suitable risk-reducing measures. 11. Be visible onsite and complete regular focused inspections while engaging in safety conversations with personnel. 12. Promote Hitachi Energy HSE processes and interact actively with site personnel. 13. Act as an ambassador for the Hitachi Energy 'We Care' behavioral safety program by providing coaching and support to site personnel. 14. Demonstrate a strong commitment towards environmental standards, guidelines, and procedures. 15. Inform on and verify adherence to site-specific environmental protection measures such as waste management, wildlife protection, and handling of hazardous substances. 16. Ensure compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures, and guidelines.

1. Engineering Graduate. 2. Industrial Safety Diploma from a State Technical Board approved college (RLI/CLI/ADIS). 3. Qualified and experienced in accordance with the BOCW Act. 4. 10+ years of experience in HSE management in large industrial projects. 5. Extensive experience in a similar HSE role in project business of similar size/complexity. 6. Fluent in English (Verbal and Written). 7. Conversant with ISO 45001 (Internal Auditor Training certification in ISO 45001 is advantageous). 8. Formal Incident Investigation Training.
