Job description

This role is a critical EHS leadership position for setting up an E2E Greenfield Foods project in Trichy, India. It provides EHS leadership across design, engineering, construction, commissioning, and start-up, later transitioning into the Site EHS Manager role for the live plant. The project includes a manufacturing plant, ASRS with 6,500+ pallet positions, 20,000 MT long-term cold storage, solar & wind power integration, IGBC Green Building Gold certification, and Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD). The candidate will ensure compliance with PepsiCo EHS standards, GEHSMS, local statutory regulations, and FM Global requirements.

Responsibilities

1. Establish and lead the EHS strategy and governance for the Greenfield project in alignment with PepsiCo EHS standards, GEHSMS, and applicable legislation. 2. Drive EHS by Design across engineering, equipment selection, and project execution, ensuring critical EHS risks are identified and controlled at source. 3. Lead Construction EHS Management, ensuring safe execution of civil, infrastructure, MEP, utilities, process, and equipment installation activities. 4. Lead Contractor EHS Management including qualification, onboarding, capability building, field verification, performance management, and compliance. 5. Manage construction critical risks, including work at height, lifting, excavation, hot work, confined space, electrical safety, and hazardous energy. 6. Lead project fire protection, emergency preparedness, and FM Global engagement, establishing appropriate emergency arrangements. 7. Ensure compliance with applicable EHS statutory, environmental, and regulatory requirements, including permits, approvals, and licenses. 8. Lead EHS risk assessments, HAZID/HAZOP, MOC, incident investigations, and corrective action management. 9. Establish EHS systems and processes required for commissioning, PSSR, start-up, and operational handover. 10. Lead operational site EHS performance and governance in Phase 2, partnering with Plant Leadership and Regional EHS to set priorities and KPIs. 11. Ensure compliance with statutory bodies such as DISH, Pollution Control Board, and Fire Authorities. 12. Oversee environmental compliance, including ETP operations, wastewater treatment, air emissions, and hazardous waste management.

Education qualifications

1. Engineering degree with a recognized EHS qualification, such as RLI/CLI or equivalent; NEBOSH preferred. 2. 8–10 years of EHS experience, with significant exposure to large-scale construction, Greenfield/Brownfield projects, and manufacturing industries. 3. 3+ years of construction/project EHS experience, preferably on mid-to-large capital projects with multiple contractors & work fronts. 4. Strong knowledge of construction safety, contractor management, risk assessment, PTW, hazardous energy, lifting, work at height, excavation, electrical safety, fire protection, and emergency response. 5. Working knowledge of environmental management and statutory compliance for construction and manufacturing sites. 6. Experience establishing EHS systems and capability in a new site/project environment. 7. Strong influencing, stakeholder management, communication, and coaching skills. 8. Proficiency in Tamil Language.
